Under Australian Standard AS/NZS 1891.4:2009, all height safety equipment including harnesses, lanyards, fall arrest devices and associated hardware, must be inspected at least every six months by a competent person.
A competent heights safety equipment inspector is defined as someone who has, through a combination of training, experience and formal assessment, demonstrated the ability to detect faults and determine the appropriate remedial action.

However, Haz-Ed strongly recommends participants hold a current RIIWHS204E Work Safely at Heights certificate prior to attending, consistent with the recommendation of the Working at Heights Association of Australia (WAHA).

This course delivers training to the nationally recognised unit PUAEQU001 and covers how to inspect height safety equipment to the level defined by AS/NZS 1891.4.
Note that this course doesn’t replace manufacturer-specific training. If you need to service, repair or certify specific proprietary products (e.g. IKAR, MSA/Latchways, Harken Industrial), you’ll also need to complete the relevant manufacturer-approved training.
